NSRI issues severe weather warning

Coastal safety alert issued as Spring tide couples with full moon.

THE National Sea Rescue Institute, together with the SA Weather Service, has issued severe weather warnings for coastal areas for the coming week.

NSRI is urging extreme caution along the coastline as forecasts predict storm conditions, including gale force winds, rough seas, heavy sea swells and big surf.

The warning issued via email says the conditions are expected to continue for the next five to six days.

‘Boaters, paddlers, bathers, sailors and anglers should be cautious around the coast during these storm conditions,’ the NSRI said.

Spring tide started on Wednesday and is expected to continue into next week.

‘We urge sea users to watch weather warnings, have the sea rescue emergency phone number 112 programmed into their phones and only go to sea if it is absolutely necessary.’

Spring tide comes around twice every month at full moon and new moon, bringing higher than normal high tides, lower low tides and stronger rip currents.
