Man gets life sentence for raping minor
The incidents continued from October 2014 until the victim fell pregnant in November that year
THE Empangeni Magistrate’s Court last week sentenced 54-year-old Bhekumuzi Manzini to 25 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old mentally disturbed girl in the Obizo Reserve, Empangeni.
Investigators discovered that the accused would visit and rape the victim when she was alone at home and threatened her not to report the matter to anyone.
When the victim fell pregnant in November 2014, an aunt discovered what was going on upon questioning her.
When Manzini was questioned, he denied the allegations and threaten to kill them.
The matter was reported to the Empangeni police and the docket transferred to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
DNA tests linked Manzini to the case and he was arrested and charged.
His bail application was denied and he remained in custody until sentencing.
