Dr Welman bids farewell

'Thank you also to all my wonderful patients who supported me so loyally'

AFTER 35 years in Empangeni as one of the foremost gynaecologists in town, Dr Stephen Welman has announced his retirement.

As of Saturday Dr Welman is off to Thailand to enjoy his golden years in an upmarket part of Bangkok.

Chatting in his office last week, Dr Welman told the Zululand Observer he is looking forward to the golf courses and the exotic cuisine.

‘It has been an absolute privilege to have been part of this community since 1981,’ he said.

‘I have many thanks to give, especially to all my colleagues who I have had the honour to work with – Dr OP Quantock, Dr F Wever, Dr SN Tavi and Dr Usaiwevhu.’

Dr Welman also wishes to give thanks to all the nursing staff that worked with him, among them Sister Molly Pillay and all the maternity staff at Life Empangeni Private Hospital.

‘Thank you also to all my wonderful patients who supported me so loyally and last but not least, thank you to my personal assistants, Jane and Amelia.’

As he starts the long process of packing and moving, Dr Welman is learning Thai with fervour and is certainly looking forward to improving his cooking skills.
