King Cetshwayo District (uThungulu)

Provisional results have the ANC winning uMfolozi Municipality, however, the IFP has won one more seat.

IFP draws first blood in KZN, claims Nkandla and Hluhluwe/Somkele

In two hours, IEC officials have increased the total votes counted to 47%.

While the IFP still has a strong lead in Nkandla and Mthonjaneni, the ANC has pulled back on uMfolozi and is still leading in uMlalazi and uMhlathuze.

10am

Results are slowly streaming in for the uThungulu District, and as at 10am with 40% of votes counted the IFP is leading in Nkandla, uMfolozi and Mthonjaneni.

The ANC meanwhile looks set to hold on to uMhlathuze and uMlalazi.

Voter Turnout

Of the 480 685 voters registered in the King Cetshwayo (uThungulu) District, only 279 086 (58.06%) voted.

uMfolozi – 46 753 voted out of 74 341 registered.  (62.89%)

uMhlathuze – 106 637 voted out of 195 576. (54.52%)

uMlalazi – 65 588 voted out of 108 500 registered. (60.45%)

Mthonjaneni – 26 783 voted out of 44 562 registerd. (60.1%)

Nkandla – 33 325 voted out of 57 706 registered. (57.75%)

City of uMhlathuze

4pm – 56% of votes counted

As the results streamed in, the ANC was slowly but surely strengthening its lead in the City of uMhlathuze.

So far, the ANC has cemented Wards 15, 20, 21 and 30 while the DA has Ward 23.

The ANC is still holding on to its early lead with the IFP now pushing slightly ahead of the DA.

The ANC is holding a provisional lead in the City, while the DA and the IFP are neck and neck.

The first provisional results have been made available for wards in the City of uMhlathuze:

The ANC looks likely to retain the following wards: 24, 25, 27, 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, the DA looks set to hold on to Ward 23, 2, 3 while results for Ward 1 are still pending.

Ward 9 meanwhile looks to be hotly contested between the ANC and the DA.

The IFP has shown strong results so far in Wards 31, 32 and 33 and is provisionally second overall.

Nkandla Municipality

4pm – 100% votes counted – IFP wins Nkandla

The IFP looks set to take Nkandla with 56.4% of the votes ahead of the ANC with 42.05%.

Nkandla, one of the most hotly contested municipalities in the country, is currently being led by the IFP.

uMfolozi Municipality

4pm – 100% votes counted – ANC wins uMfolozi

While the ANC vote counted in at 49.35% and the IFP at 43.92%, the IFP secured 9 seats with the ANC only 8.

uMfolozi Municipality is quickly becoming the most hotly contested in the district. At 12pm there was only 2% separating leaders ANC from the IFP in second place, an exact reversal from this morning.

Support for the EFF has steadied at 2%, still the party’s strongest numbers in the district so far.

uMfolozi brings us the strongest showing by the EFF so far in uThungulu, garnerning 2.26% of the votes counted so far while the IFP takes provisional lead.

Mthonjaneni Municipality

4pm – 100% votes counted – IFP wins Mthonjaneni

The IFP is maintaining a strong lead of around 17% over the ANC.

The IFP is again in the lead so far in Mthonjaneni, with the ANC trailing by around 16%.

uMlalazi Municipality

4pm – 72% votes counted

The ANC looks set to take uMlalazi as at 4pm, the party was still leading the IFP by 54.84% to 40.01%.

ANC candidates in uMlalazi are breathing a sigh of relief as the IFP was leading as the votes came in last night.

The ANC is currently leading by some 15%.

uMkhanyakude District

In Mtubatuba, the IFP has won with 44.86% over the ANC with 43.98% and the DA with 3.82%.

However, the IFP and ANC have both won 18 seats with the DA winning 2.

Zululand District

In the Zululand District, the IFP looks set to take Ulundi and Nongoma. At 3.30pm they were leading over the ANC by 52.79% to the ANC’s 30.91% in Nongoma with 97% of the vote counted.

While in Ulundi, the IFP has held on to a demanding lead for most of the day and at 3.30pm they were still in the lead with 73.19% over the ANC’s 23.17% and the EFF’s 1.77% with 91% of votes counted.
