Telkom to credit angry customers
Major business losses after long phone cable outages
DESPITE some Telkom services returning to normality after being down for weeks, Empangeni business owners said faulty phone lines impacted heavily on their trading figures.
Owner of Amble Inn B&B, John Vermaak said they were without fully functioning phones for four weeks.
‘The lines are sorted now but for two weeks the phones were half down and the other two weeks, they were fully down,’ Vermaak said.
‘We lost a lot of telephone bookings and had to rely on only the online bookings. This heavily affected business.’
A major water pipe burst caused damage to two underground cables, leaving many residents and businesses with no phones or internet connection.
