QHUBANDABA Primary School teacher Nathi Majozi has appealed to the local business community to assist a woman who lives with her disabled son in a tiny backroom dwelling in Mevamhlophe Reserve.

Majozi, who is also the school’s Soul Buddies coordinator, visited Nobuhle Dumakude last week and was shocked to discover the conditions of the house she shares with her 19-year-old son, Mthabisi.

‘The biggest challenge this family face is that they only survive on a government disability grant.

‘They need a wheelchair, nappies and a proper house, which has access to roads.

The woman has to carry her son to the road when he needs to go to hospital for treatment.

She uses all of her disability grant on transportation, which leaves them with no food on the table,’ he said.

Majozi was accompanied by City of uMhlathuze Ward 25 Councillor Bongani Mathe, who promised to take the matter to Council.

‘I will table this matter at the full council meeting. I will also approach the provincial Operation Sukuma Sakhe office to ascertain how they could assist this needy family,’ he said.
