A 59-year-old man was sentenced to two life imprisonment terms in the Empangeni Regional Court last week after being convicted of raping his biological daughter.
The incident happened in Matshana where the accused and the complainant lived with the man’s girlfriend, who the child referred to as her stepmother.
The accused is believed to have beaten his girlfriend, who eventually decided to leave him.

The accused then told his daughter that she will have to take over the duties of her stepmother.
The accused raped the child on one occasion and she phoned her stepmother to reported the incident.
The child was raped again a few days later and she again phoned her stepmother, who alerted the police and the accused was arrested.
Despite positive DNA evidence, the accused maintained his innocence throughout.
