Only one week left to support the Power of Pink campaign
The Power of Pink campaign is now in its tenth year
AS Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, there are still a few days left to help make a difference in the lives of cancer sufferers.
Power of Pink is an annual campaign run by the Reach for Recovery charity, the South African Mushroom Association (SAMA) and Pick ‘n Pay, where mushroom punnets packaged in pink polystyrene are sold for the month of October.

R1 from each pink punnet of mushrooms sold goes towards the campaign.
Reach for Recovery is an international breast cancer support group affiliated to the International Union Against Cancer (IUAC).
The South African branch of Reach for Recovery is an autonomous NPO and has been in existence since the 1960s.
It consists of women who are breast cancer survivors themselves, reaching out to underprivileged breast cancer sufferers.
The Power of Pink campaign is in its tenth year and raises about R500 000 per year.
Funds raised are used mainly for the NPO’s prosthesis support programme.
Why mushrooms?
According to studies, mushrooms are high in anti-oxidants and research shows that women who eat just one mushroom every day halve their risk of breast cancer.
