Meerensee sewerage problem resolved
uMhlathuze Municipality acts on Richards Bay sewerage problem
RESIDENTS in Bream Hill, Meerensee in Richards Bay, have lost sleep and battled to breathe for a number of days from the stench of burst sewerage pipes in the area.
‘I was notified last week about the issue and informed that residents could not find the exact location of the problem,’ said uMhlathuze Ward 2 Councillor, Christo Botha.

‘I notified the municipality immediately, but no action was taken.
‘I then contacted the deputy municipal manager of infrastructure and acting municipal manager, and sent them photos.
‘After threatening to post the issue on Facebook, I received a response, assuring me the problem is being attended to,’ said Botha.
‘I then received notification from the water and sanitation department on Tuesday morning that a contractor was on site.
‘The area was sanitised with chemicals, and yesterday (Wednesday) an excavator arrived, as well as pipes from Empangeni, to begin repairs.
‘I want to thank the municipality for acting quickly to solve the problem,’ said Botha.
