International recognition for Melmoth-Ulundi Rotary Club

THE Melmoth-Ulundi Rotary Club has been awarded the prestigious Gold Rotary International Presidential Citation for 2019-2020.

Clubs are honoured if they achieve the expected Rotary Citation and several other goals.

Under the leadership of former club president, Thobile Nxumalo, the Rotary Club of Melmoth-Ulundi was able to strengthen its membership by inducting four new members on 22 August.

‘We also managed to encourage our members to attend all our meetings and conferences. Our goal was to have at least 50 per cent attendance so that members would participate fully in the club’s activities.

‘We also managed to make information available to our Rotary district and Rotary International about club classification, updated membership profiles and showcasing our projects through social media and on the ‘My Rotary’ digital platform,’ Nxumalo said.

‘As a club we had to reach out to Friends of Rotary – community members we interact with and who throughout the years have supported our fundraising efforts and other functions.

‘The club also intends to increase the number of its Friends of Rotary members by roping in local businessmen and -women, and stakeholders of crime prevention structures.

‘The club is also on a mission to open doors of opportunities for the youth by opening more clubs for kids at school, such as Earlyact clubs (primary schools), Interact clubs (secondary and high schools) and Rotaract clubs at tertiary education institutions.

‘We need to interact more with fellow Rotarians in the district. This will give our members a chance to learn from other club members.’
