Wildoceans vessel Angra Pequena has been moored at the Small Craft Harbour in Richards Bay over the past few days
THE impressive WILDOCEANS vessel Angra Pequena has been moored at the Small Craft Harbour in Richards Bay over the past few days.
The mission on this voyage is to conduct research on shark populations and distribution in order to inform management effectiveness.

On board the conservation, research and training ship is a crew that includes well known KZN conservationists Geremy Cliff and Jennifer Olbers.
Geremy was for many years the division head of the KZN Sharks Board, overseeing the research department, managing the dissection of sharks, and documenting and investigating shark attacks – including research on measures that could be taken to prevent attacks.
Olbers, a former Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife marine ecologist, is best known for her leadership in responding to marine strandings – primarily whales – along the province’s coastline.
During this trip the crew is deploying Baited Remote Underwater Vehicles (BRUVs), equipped with cameras and searchlights, looking especially for sharks and rays.
