Covid-19 fight not over, says KZN finance MEC
'We have to show serious discipline and continue wearing our masks, observing social distancing'
KZN MEC for Finance, Ravi Pillay has urged people in the province to adhere to health protocols, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
The MEC was speaking at a community engagement in KwaMafunze in Elandskop outside Pietermaritzburg yesterday (Thursday).

‘The fight is not over, we are coming to December where we want to relax and have parties.
‘There will also be visitors coming to the province, and we need tourists to boost our economy.
‘But we must recognise that the virus moves when people move. We have to show serious discipline and continue wearing our masks, observing social distancing and if somebody is sick, we must take the necessary precautions,’ he said.
He also commended frontline employees who have been working tirelessly to combat the spread of the pandemic.
Pillay was accompanied by local mayors and government officials who engaged the community of KwaMafunze on a variety of service delivery issues including water provision, roads and electricity supply.
He further outlined government’s efforts to cushion the impact of the pandemic.
‘The provincial government and the districts have been formulating economic recovery strategies.
‘This is a key priority of the government following the economic devastation and the loss of jobs resulting from Covid-19.’
He encouraged rural communities to explore opportunities in various sectors, especially in agriculture which remains one of the key sectors of the economy.
