Mtunzini-to-Sheffield conservation hike
First launched in 2019, this year's five-day walk begins on 23 June, with participants walking from Mtunzini to the Hatchery, a 22km stretch which should take about five hours to complete.

THE term ‘philocaly’ means the love of beauty. This is the inspiration behind Nikki Williamson’s determination to beautify the coastline between Mtunzini and Sheffield.
To accomplish this goal, Nikki launched the 150km Philocaly Trail to raise funds for KZN’s beach clean-up campaign, Wild Oceans and Breathe Conservation to help address the plastic pollution threat along our coastline.
First launched in 2019, this year’s five-day walk begins on 23 June, with participants walking from Mtunzini to the Hatchery, a 22km stretch which should take about five hours to complete.
The second leg on the next day will see the team walk from the Hatchery to the Tugela River mouth – about 20km.
The third leg on 25 June from Tugela to Zinkwazi is a 10km stretch, taking about three hours to complete (at an extra cost of R25 for a boat crossing).
On 26 June the 14km stretch is between Zinkwazi and Blythedale (four hours), with the fifth and final leg of the journey on 27 June from Blythedale to Sheffield Beach (18km).
It is the vision of the organisers to attract as many people as possible who want to join in the conservation walk.
The daily donation per participant is R250 and participants may choose to walk one or more of the days.
