Water and sewer project under way in King Cetshwayo district

To address the water challenges in King Cetshwayo district, the municipality is busy with two key infrastructure projects valued at hundreds of millions of rands.
This was outlined by District Mayor Lindokuhle Phungula during his State of the District Address at Umfolozi Casino last Friday.
According to Phungula, the Kwahlokohloko water project and the Thubalethu Melmoth sewer upgrade form part of their Integrated Development Plan (IDP), with Phase 1 completed.
Phase 2 for both projects is currently out to tender.
The Kwahlokohloko water project, estimated to cost R120-million, is intended to address the water shortages from the Greater Mthonjaneni bulk scheme, and improve the water supply to eShowe, King Dinuzulu township and wards 12, 14 and 17 under uMlalazi Municipality.
‘Another milestone is the anticipated completion of the Thubalethu Melmoth sewer upgrade, at a cost of R20-million,’ he said. ‘This project will eradicate the sewer spillages affecting Thubalethu.’
He urged business forums to work with the municipality in finding solutions to service delivery and job creation, while dissuading citizens from violent protest action.
‘I am confident that our engagements and regular meetings with labour unions are bearing fruit, and we have an open-door policy on matters relating to jobs and recruitment matters,’ said Phungula.
‘This includes unions that operate within the municipality.’
