The number of GBV cases reported across the province in May was 1 562.

The areas most affected were Plessislaer, uMlazi, Inanda, Empangeni, eShowe, Madadeni, Phoenix, Chatsworth, Verulam and KwaDukuza. Zikalala urged victims to continue to report such incidents.

‘We call upon those who are affected by GBV to report it, or to confide in others who can report it, so such matters are brought to the attention of law enforcement authorities who must act without fear or favour.

‘The third quarter crime statistics released in December last year showed Empangeni SAPS featuring in the top 30 stations in SA for crimes such as murder, attempted murder, sexual assault, burglaries and kidnapping.’
