Foreigner caught with illegal gun and drugs

A Tanzanian national appeared on Friday at Empangeni Magistrate’s Court for possession of drugs and an unlicenced firearm.

The 38-year-old was arrested in Dumisane Makhaye Village on Thursday night by the Empangeni Saps task team, following a tip-off.

King Cetshwayo cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase said they proceeded to the suspect’s house for a search.

‘Drugs were recovered, as well as a .38 revolver special with six live rounds of ammunition,’ said Shangase.

The suspect was remanded in police custody for further investigation. He is expected to appear at the same court on Thursday for a formal bail application.
