Man arrested for illegal firearm

A 60-year-old man from Nkangala near Eshowe was arrested last week for being in possession of illegal firearms.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said the eShowe Saps Task Team responded to intelligence received.

‘Upon arrival, the suspect saw them and tried to escape, but it was too late. He was caught, searched and found to be in possession of a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition.’

Gwala said police searched his house where a home-made shotgun was also found.

He was arrested and charged, appearing in Eshowe Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday.

He has been remanded for further investigation and is expected to appear on Wednesday for a formal bail application.
