Striders Marathon Ulundi this Sunday
Sdumo Mtshali, event organiser, said the marathon seeks to keep communities fit ahead of the festive season.

IT’S all about healthy living this Sunday morning (14 November) as the Striders Marathon gets underway from Ulundi’s Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Regional Stadium at 6.30am.
The marathon, organised by the KZN Sports Confederation (KZNSC) in collaboration with various sporting boards, is the first of its kind in the area. There’s a 5km fun run and 10km race which both start and finish at the stadium.
Sdumo Mtshali, event organiser, said the marathon seeks to keep communities fit ahead of the festive season.
‘The day accommodates every age group, from the young athletes to the elderly, boys and girls, grandpas and grandmas,’ said Mtshali. ‘We invite everyone to come out in their numbers and enjoy a day in the sun.’
Participants will run alongside community leaders and role models such as Thokozani Langa, the great maskandi artist, and legendary sports’ commentator, Joe Hudla.
Hudla has made a name for himself as a football commentator for SABC’s Zulu radio station, Ukhozi FM since 1983.
‘I will be running for the first time in many many years. I have not trained at all because I do not want to use up all my energy for the race!’ chuckled Hudla. ‘However, this race is not about wining trophies and prizes, instead it is about starting and finishing it. As long as I finish the race and beat Thokozani (Langa), I will be very happy!’
More than 500 people are expected to attend the event where all Covid-19 protocols will be observed. A water table will be provided at the halfway mark.
The entry cost is R50 for the fun run and R150 for the race, with medals for all who finish.
