WATCH: Stormwater drains overflow from Friday’s heavy rain

Friday morning began with heavy rainfall across the region, causing standing water on the John Ross Highway and stormwater drains to overflow

Summer is upon us and, while Zululand’s warmest months are renowned for extreme heat and humidity, KZN’s summer season is also its wettest.

From a scorching and humid 36 degree C day last Saturday, to a drastically cooler 18 degree forecast for this weekend, Zululanders are in for a mixed bag of weather.

Friday morning began with heavy rainfall across the region, causing standing water on the John Ross Highway and stormwater drains to overflow.

One stormwater drain in Baines Road, Empangeni is notorious for overflowing during heavy rains, which in turn causes a river to run the length of the road, at times sweeping up debris on its course.

During times of rainfall, whether light or heavy, motorists are reminded to be more vigilant on the roads, especially during the festive season.
