Nongoma artists showcase local talent

IT is imperative that the youth use their talents to positively impact communities rather than indulging in substance abuse.

These were the words of Dance Empire leader Liwa Ndlovu at a Nongoma talent search hosted at Esiphambanweni Community Hall on Saturday.

Ndlovu said a lack of job opportunities has caused many to lose hope. However, if they can unearth and nurture local talent, opportunities will arise.

The event invited more than 100 local artists to perform music, including hip hop, maskandi and gqom.

Emerging artists and organisations such as Magoqa Womdanso, Dance Empire, Nsizwenye Production, Ntemnandi, and Rock-Killer showcased their talent on stage.

Phindile Dhlamini, a community developer from Top Learners Academy, addressed participants on using their talent to make a career.

‘It is important to use your talent instead of losing hope and indulging in drugs and criminal activities.’ she aid.

‘We understand that it is not easy to make this possible in a short space of time, but perseverance, encouragement and enthusiasm allow you to make it through.’
