WATCH: Work under way to repair massive sinkhole in Richards Bay CBD

Repairs are expected to take some time to complete

LIRA Link in Richards Bay’s CBD is inaccessible from East Central Arterial owing to a major sinkhole stretching the width of the road in the vicinity of the new traffic circle.

Municipal officials were on scene earlier today (Thursday), and the cause of the road collapse appears to have been a ruptured sewage line.

Concrete encasing the main sewage line had weakened over time, leading to the break in the pipe.

The affected section of road has been cordoned off, and repairs are expected to take some time to complete.
