Stock theft accused in police custody

Three men accused of stock theft nabbed

THREE suspects accused of stock theft, aged between 33 and 40, appeared at the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The trio was arrested on Saturday in one of the farms in the Normandien by the Anti-Stock Theft Task Team together with a private security company.

Police and private security embarked on an operation after receiving a tip-off about cattle that had been stolen from one of the local farms.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said farmers assisted with horses used during the operation.

‘The team proceeded to a farm in Normandien where 15 bonsmara cattle were found hidden,’ she said.

‘The stolen cattle were positively identified by the owner. The arrested suspects are expected back in court next week Tuesday for a formal bail application.’
