AFTER making landfall in central-eastern Madagascar on Saturday night as an intense tropical cyclone, Batsirai started tracking southwest, continuing on a southerly trajectory once entering the Mozambican Channel.

As forecast by weather and meteorological experts both local and global last weekend, Batsirai remained in the channel, heading southwards, posing no threat to South Africa or Mozambique.

As of this morning (Wednesday), Batsirai, now classified as a cold-core extra-tropical cyclone (mid-latitude cyclone), is south of South Africa and is tomorrow expected to merge with another mid-latitude cyclone south of South Africa.

Once merged, this single system will continue tracking southeast, posing no threat to South Africa.
