Police arrived on scene and began dispersing the protesters

LEARNING has ground to a halt at the University of Zululand (Unizulu) in KwaDlangezwa as angry students are on a mass protest over several issues including the safety of students living off-campus.

They began chanting and singing at around 11pm, and blocked the main road into the township with burning tyres and other materials.

Police were called to the scene and began dispersing the crowd with rubber bullets and teargas. No violent incident or injuries have been reported.
