The programme, which is fully funded by various stakeholders in the district, assesses the needs of rural schools and their pupils.

‘Our mission is to improve the quality of education in rural schools,’ explained Mkhwanazi. ‘We visited

Nkodibe High School and Mdungandlovu High School in the Mtubatuba area.

We donated sanitary pads to female pupils under the Caring4Girls initiative, and gave them an educational talk.

‘Mental and social development among children is an invaluable investment to the well-being of our society, and awareness is key.’

Mkwanazi said they were grateful for the many individual donations from numerous stakeholders, which were too many to mention.

‘While we are incredibly thankful to our stakeholders for their involvement, we need more funds for this programme to be successful,’ he said.

‘We would also like to work with the municipalities under which the affected schools fall.

‘ Anyone wanting to assist the uMkhanyakude Rural Schools Development Foundation can contact Xolani Mkhwanazi on 084 8363199 or 068 2593702.
