The Richards Bay blood donor centre is calling on all citizens to roll up their sleeves and donate this life-saving resource.
Blood stocks are critically low countrywide, with only three days’ supply of B+ and O+.

South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is requesting AB- donors to come forward.
While the blood service prefers a five-day blood supply, a 3.5 day supply means stocks are significantly low, while the current three day supply is
heading towards the critically low mark.
Why donate blood?
One unit of blood lasts only 42 days, meaning it cannot be used beyond this time.
Less than 1% of the South African population actively donates blood, and the SANBS wants to better this figure.
The SANBS aims to collect 3 000 units of blood each day to ensure a safe and sufficient supply.
One unit of blood can save up to three lives as the blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
Whole blood donations can be done every 56 days, while plasma and platelets can be donated every 14 days.

Zululanders can make their way to the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre’s lower level where the Richards Bay blood donor centre can be found at the entrance to the undercover parking.
