WATCH: Happiness should be prioritised as much as economic growth
Today (Sunday) is International Day of Happiness. What small pleasures bring you joy?

Today (Sunday, 20 March) it’s all about smiles and good vibes as the whole world will be celebrating International Day of Happiness.
With the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and Covid-19 still with us, it’s fair to say we all deserve a day free of worry and anxiety, and filled with happiness.
So what is this delightful day all about?
The United Nations partnered with non-profit organisation Action for Happiness, which brings together 160 countries to celebrate the well-being and happiness of humans.
These countries include South Africa, and their resolution is to campaign for the equal prioritisation of happiness in humans as much as we prioritise economic growth.
Most people think happiness can come from exciting events, large purchases or winning a big cash prize, forgetting that something as simple as ice cream, a walk on the beach or a much-deserved day off can significantly contribute to one’s happiness.
At the Zululand Observer, we asked some of our team members what little pleasures in life make them happy.
Watch the video to find out what they had to say.
