No major concerns were identified when a road safety campaign was held at the KwaMsane entry on the N2 on Thursday ahead of the Easter long weekend.

Leading a team of traffic and Saps officers, Mayor Mxolisi Mthethwa, along with his deputy Nothile Mthethwa and council Speaker Sbongile Shezi, held a roadblock at the intersection to raise awareness about road safety and the need to adhere to the rules of the road ahead of the long weekend.
Mayor Mthethwa said it was important that road users drive with caution as roads were wet following the heavy rains of this week, which left a trail of devastating destruction in some parts of the province.
‘We want to ensure that road users adhere to the rules of the road and traffic laws. During our roadblock on Thursday, nothing much was noticed,’ Mthethwa said.
Meanwhile, the municipality’s disaster management department said that following the severe downpours, about 14 houses in different wards were completely destroyed and that the mayor was working to ensure that these families are assisted.
Mthethwa has already communicated with Sassa to ensure that these families are given R800 food vouchers.
The acting communications head at the municipality, Khulekani Msweli said the disaster management department’s assessment of the destruction caused by the severe rain was still ongoing.
