Ambulances rushed from Empangeni, KwaMbonambi and Richards Bay, and treated 21 passengers for minor injuries

Emergency medical services treated 16 injured commuters, when the bus in which they were travelling collided with a truck on the N2 near the KwaMbonambi exit this afternoon (Friday).

The incident occurred at about midday as the bus was transporting its passengers to Empangeni from Mtubatuba.

Passengers said the bus was driving behind a truck when it suddenly slammed on brakes and came to stop.

Unable to brake in time, the bus driver hit the back of the heavy duty truck before swerving into the bushes at the roadside and coming to a dead stop.

Ambulances rushed from Empangeni, KwaMbonambi and Richards Bay, and treated 21 passengers for minor injuries while a further two required more serious medical attention.
