Mtubatuba Municipality to elect councillors to serve at district

The Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday ordered that the council should convene the meeting within four days.

The Mtubatuba municipal council is expected to sit on Monday to elect councillors to serve at uMkhanyakude District Municipality.

This after the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday ordered that the council should convene the meeting within four days.

The court order is the outcome of the IFP’s challenge of the validity of the 23 November meeting which ended with the election of an ANC-led leadership.

The court declared that the exclusion of two IFP councillors from voting on the date was inconsistent with the Constitution, and invalid.

The court also ordered that the appointment of some of the councillors as district councillors was inconsistent with the Constitution.
