In a bid to strategically combat all varieties of crime across KZN, police across the province have embarked on a number of multi-disciplinary operations.
As a result, a total of 8 550 suspects were arrested during the month of April alone.

A total of 2 186 arrests were made for contact crimes. These include 224 arrests for murder, 81 for robberies, 209 for rape, 992 for assault, 12 for carjacking and 2 099 for stock theft.
Police also recovered drugs such as heroin, mandrax powder, cocaine and dagga.
A further 611 suspects were arrested for liquor-related offences.
Additionally, police seized 255 illegal firearms with 3 350 various rounds of ammunition.
All firearms seized will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in any other crimes in the country.
Provincial Saps has praised the efforts of these officers in effecting the arrests, particularly as many arrests took place during the aftermath of the KZN floods.
Police and security groups reportedly intercepted many opportunistic criminal groups.
