Sunday is D-day for Natal Rich Boyz

NRB is at the top of the GladAfrica Championship log, two points clear of Pretoria University

By 5pm on Sunday, Richards Bay FC could – and should – have gained automatic promotion to the elite Premier Soccer League (PSL).

It’s been a long, hard season, largely dominated by the Rich Boyz, who have lost only four times in 29 games and who, at one stage, boasted a 19-match undefeated run.

Sitting two points clear of Pretoria University at the top of the GladAfrica Championship log, three points from a win or even a single point from a draw against Cape Town Spurs, will see NRB crowned as champions, regardless of other results.

The worst case scenario would be the Rich Boyz losing on Sunday at the King Zwelithini Stadium, and Tuks winning, which would mean yet another promotion-relegation lottery for club chairman Jomo Biyela’s squad.

But that thought is not even entering the minds of head coach Pitso Dladla, his technical team, and the fans who have loyally supported the boys in blue.

They WILL win on Sunday; they have not come this far to fall at the last hurdle.

This is a group of tough young men; fighters who know they have the opportunity of a lifetime to cement their futures as well as those of the club, city and district.

My prediction is a solid 3-0 victory, to the joy of those supporters who travel to the game, as well as those who will be glued to their couches, watching on DStv.

And to rub it in further, I’m backing Tuks to be eaten by some Hungry Lions.
