Power should be restored in KwaMsane, Mtubatuba

Technicians were replacing a control box on the 11Kv breaker

Following a power outage from just after midday on Monday in KwaMsane township outside Mtubatuba, Eskom said it expected the electricity supply to be restored by this (Tuesday) evening.

Eskom’s Joyce Zingoni said, ‘There was a fault on both the Eskom and municipality sides.’

This afternoon, Zingoni further said the municipality had fixed the fault on its side and that Eskom was on site repairing its fault.

‘Power should be restored by this evening,’ she said.

Zingoni said the entity’s technicians were replacing a control box on the 11Kv breaker.

Ward Councillor Mfana Gumede said he was alerted on Monday that the main transformer which supplies electricity to the township had a fault.

‘The breakers did not trip, which damaged a cable and one of the transformers located inside the township,’ Gumede said.

The councillor said Eskom technicians were on site on Monday and it was found that some of the necessary equipment to fix these issues needed to be fetched from Pietermaritzburg.

‘I am still following up on what is the latest on the power issue,’ Gumede said.
