Protest leader Sibonelo Buthelezi said they now seek the intervention of IFP founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
‘Before last year’s local government elections, we elected our preferred candidates of ward councillors and propositional representative councillors. But our constituency leaders changed the lists.
‘They mixed them up. We raised our concerns and they promised to attend to it but, to date, nothing has been done.
‘Before the elections, our President Emeritus Prince Buthelezi came to us and promised this issue would be addressed.
‘Now our members have been patient enough as the party is not doing anything about this,’ Buthelezi said.
He believes the candidates’ list was deliberately mixed up.
‘We now sit with councillors who do not live in our wards, and we find ourselves facing serious challenges to work with these councillors as we do not know where they live.
‘We are not happy about their behaviour. Recently, a ward committee was elected under the supervision of the mayor and her executive, but these councillors are refusing to work with those who were democratically elected.
‘They have chosen their own ward committee members without our knowledge.’
Buthelezi added that at the party meeting held at Waterbus Community Hall, an interim leadership structure was elected under the supervision of the Zululand District leadership.
After handing over their memorandum, the disgruntled party members demanded a response within 14 days.
