Help on the way for unsafe Mtubatuba school

The Kwanyamazane Primary school in Dukuduku will be upgraded

The Department of Education (DoE) in KZN has revealed that the Kwanyamazane Primary school in Dukuduku near St Lucia will be upgraded.

DoE spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi said on Friday that the run-down school is on its infrastructure plan and has been allocated to an implimenting agency for reconstruction.

Mahlambi was reacting to strings of criticism from residents who were arguing that the school puts the lives of innocent learners in danger.

One of the parents, Sihle Mkhwanzi blamed the department for neglecting their school.

‘The department is dicing with the lives of your children. The school structure can collapse anytime as we speak. The walls have cracked everywhere. I think with heavy rains pouring down anything is possible these days.

‘They must just repair the school for the safety of our children,’ he said.
School Governing Body chairperson, Sabelo Mdamba said community members have already shut down seven classrooms.

‘Those classrooms are posing danger to teachers and learners.

‘We have written a letter to the MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu to alert him about of challenges. We gave him seven days to respond to our letter,’ Mdamba said.
