South Africans have taken to social media to express their frustration around the social issues within the country.

Trending at #1 on Twitter is #NationalShutdown whereby citizens are advocating for a national shutdown to take place on 10 June in protest against the latest round of fuel hikes.

Although the protest has not been declared legitimate by the government or any organisation, it is a cause for concern as previous protests and violence, like last year’s civil unrest, gained traction online before taking place physically.
