Memorial service for slain EFF councillor

EFF KZN Secretary Sifiso Mthethwa said Buthelezi will be laid to rest on Saturday

The memorial service of slain uMkhanyakude District Municipality EFF councillor Mxolisi Buthelezi will be held on Thursday at the Prince Mzondeni Civic Centre in KwaMsane, Mtubatuba.

Buthelezi was fatally gunned down on Thursday morning in a drive-by shooting at Ogengele near Mtubatuba.

Saps spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said, ‘He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene.’

EFF KZN Secretary Sifiso Mthethwa said Buthelezi will be laid to rest on Saturday and that the party’s Secretary-

General Marshall Dlamini will lead a delegation of EFF national leaders expected to attend the funeral.

Mthethwa said Thursday’s memorial service is scheduled to start at 1pm.

Following Buthelezi’s murder, there has been an outpouring of messages of condolence on social media.

The police in KwaMsane are investigating, but no arrests have yet been made, and no motive has been established.

Mthethwa said there has been no update from the police regarding the investigation.
