Smiso 'Gandaganda' Buthelezi has been placed in an induced coma after he became disorientated in Sunday's fight
Friends, family and the South African boxing fraternity is praying for the speedy recovery of Smiso ‘Gandaganda’ Buthelezi following a severe injury suffered during a match last weekend.
The University of Zululand (Unizulu) student and boxer went viral on Sunday night when a video of his fight against Siphesihle Mntungwa at the Greyville Convention Centre in Durban hit social media.

The match was part of a super weekend of boxing, with Smiso and Siphelele competing for the vacant WBF Lightweight title.
In the video, the Team Skeleton boxer can be seen throwing punches at his opponent, when he suddenly becomes disorientated and begins punching the air and the referee, who immediately stopped the fight with less than two minutes left of the final round.
Smiso was safely removed from the ring and rushed to hospital after the fight. He has since been placed in an induced coma, according to his coach, Skeleton Mngomezulu.
‘This is very tough to take, especially for his family. Simiso graduated two weeks ago from Unizulu in zoology and botany.
The family can’t understand why this had to happen because Simiso has a bright future,’ said Mngomezulu.
