Pongola and Durban fuel hike protests
Demonstrations will be held in Durban and Pongola simultaneously on Friday afternoon

In an effort to shine a light on the detrimental effects of recent fuel hikes, Cosatu, alongside partners SACP, ANC, Young Communist League, Sasco, Sanco Youth, Taxi Drivers Union (Qina Mshayeli/Satdu), Cosatu Gender
Structure, have planned a protest in the Durban CBD today (Friday).

Other socio-economic issues they are protesting against include the sharp increase of public transportation fees, poor wages, and the high rate of unemployment.
‘It was an easy decision for all Cosatu affiliates and alliance partners to participate in the demonstration as the current situation is an injury to all,’ said Cosatu KZN Provincial Secretary Edwin Mkhize. ‘Many people in our country are unemployed or losing jobs. We have an economy that is bleeding jobs and therefore rising cost of food and fuel will subject our people to extreme levels of poverty,’ he said.
The demonstration is set to end at the Marine Building on Dorothy Nyembe Street where the protesters will hand over a memorandum.
A similar demonstration is planned for Pongola on the N2.
