Umkhanyakude District Mayor Siphile Mdaka on Monday issued a directive to the municipality’s workers to ensure damaged water pipes at kwaNompondo in Hluhluwe are fixed within seven days.

The municipality said the reservoir supplies water to the Ncemane, Nompondo, Smolo, Cwakeme, Magodlanduku and Ngodini areas.

Mdaka engaged with locals with the aim of finding solutions that would ensure water is supplied not only to the area but throughout the district.

During the dialogue, the community raised complaints that they do not get water to the area.

Mdaka was told by municipal officials that this was a result of the water pump not having enough power, as well as damaged water pipes.

The mayor directed the municipal workers to ensure the water pipes are fixed within seven days, and added that they should supply water to the residents of Nkostini before the end of Monday, 4 July.
