Suspected burglars arrested in Mtubatuba

The suspects were arrested while police were conducting a routine patrol

KWAMSANE police on Monday arrested burglary and theft suspects in the Nkodibe area in Mtubatuba, who remain in custody.

Police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said the suspects were arrested when police officials were patrolling the area, conducting stop and search operations on the R618.

Mkhize said the suspects were arrested after the police spotted a motor vehicle at around 1.30am with its headlights switched off.

“The police stopped and searched the vehicle that had two male occupants.

“During a search of the motor vehicle, the police found a pellet gun and property suspected to be stolen, which included computer hardware, a laptop, printer, photocopying machine, cellphones, brush cutter and petrol.

“Both suspects failed to give satisfactory explanations about the property in their possession.

“They were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property,” Mkhize said.

The suspects appeared at KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and their bail application was postponed.

They remain in police custody.

Mkhize said investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects can be linked to burglary and theft cases in the area.
