Afriforum refurbishes Pongola airport

The civil organisation replaced lights and repainted runway lines

IN a bid to improve safety at Pongola Airport, the town’s AfriForum branch carried out much-needed refurbishment.

Safety lights were replaced, the grass alongside the runway and around the buildings was cut, and the runway lines were repainted.

“It came to our attention that the condition of the airport was not up to standard, and that it was unsafe for aircraft to use the runway.

Runway markings are more visible

“Our branch decided to take action, and made several improvements as part of the #OurTown campaign,” said Alton Vlok, AfriForum Pongola chairperson.

“It is important for the Pongola community that the airport is up to standard because all the other airports are far from the town,” said Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum district
co-ordinator for KZN.

AfriForum said its Pongola branch would ensure the airport is maintained.
