RBIDZ achieves global safety standard with ISO 45001:2018

RBIDZ’s SABS ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications stand as a testament to the organisation’s governance excellence, ethical leadership and commitment to delivering safe, sustainable and high‑quality industrial development.

The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) proudly celebrates the achievement of ISO 45001:2018 certification, reinforcing its commitment to internationally recognised management system standards.

This milestone builds on the organisation’s existing ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management) certifications, further strengthening RBIDZ’s integrated approach to quality, environmental stewardship and occupational health and safety.

RBIDZ is certified to internationally recognised management system standards, namely ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018, demonstrating a strong and consistent commitment to excellence, regulatory compliance, good governance and international best practice. These certifications affirm the organisation’s dedication to delivering quality services, managing environmental impacts responsibly and safeguarding the health and safety of all stakeholders.

Commenting on this achievement, RBIDZ Chief Executive Officer, Thabane Zulu, said, “The attainment of these internationally recognised ISO certifications reflects RBIDZ’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest quality standards in our operations and in how we serve our stakeholders. They also reinforce our commitment to good governance, ethical conduct and accountability as an entity entrusted with driving sustainable industrial growth. We remain focused on continuous improvement and ensuring that our systems support excellence, safety and integrity across all aspects of our business.”

With safety embedded as one of RBIDZ’s core values, the organisation remains committed to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for employees, tenants, contractors and visitors within the Zone. RBIDZ implements a structured Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) aligned with ISO 45001:2018, focusing on proactive risk identification, hazard prevention, legal compliance and continuous improvement in health and safety performance.

Health and safety responsibility is shared across all levels of the organisation, with management, employees and stakeholders jointly involved in identifying hazards and managing risks. This inclusive approach strengthens the safety culture and enhances organisational accountability.

RBIDZ benchmarks its quality, environmental and occupational health and safety practices against leading international best practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining alignment with global standards.

To support continuous improvement, continuous SHE committee engagements facilitate the sharing of best practices and drive sustained enhancements in safety performance. In addition, the Tenant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) forum provides a collaborative platform for RBIDZ and its tenants to exchange information, engage on areas of common interest, review SHE performance and strengthen a shared safety culture across the Zone.

The organisation’s SABS ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications stand as a testament to RBIDZ’s governance excellence, ethical leadership and commitment to delivering safe, sustainable and high‑quality industrial development.
