The exhibition is to commemorate Tourism Month and raise funds for African Wildlife Vets
AFTER Wednesday evening’s grand opening, the Wild Art Group Exhibition in St Lucia is under way.
To commemorate Tourism Month, and to raise much-needed funds for the African Wildlife Vets NPO, The Art Gallery – St Lucia is hosting a month-long exhibition.

From 4-31 August, artists from across the Zululand region will showcase their wildlife-inspired artwork.
Ten per cent of all proceeds raised at the exhibition will go to African Wildlife Vets, which offers crucial veterinarian services to various conservation groups in KZN.
With the sharp increase in rhino poaching, treating injured animals is an important part of the entity’s job, which relies on donations to carry out its mandate.
Concerned about the increase in wildlife poaching, especially rhinos, the group of local artists decided to take up their brushes and pencils to help make a difference.
“Our group of artists shares a deep love for South African wildlife, landscape, plants and animals,” said Anneri de Wilde, artist and gallery co-owner.
“These are the very things that inspire us to create; the beauty, energy and diversity of our wildlife.
“So, naturally, this onslaught on our animals and destruction of their habitat concerns us.”
August is peak tourist season in St Lucia, particularly for European travellers, and the artists hope to capitalise on this through the sale of artwork, and donations towards African Wildlife Vets.
Artists whose work will be showcased are Anneri de Wilde, Eileen van der Merwe, Amanda Yearsley, Elea Georgiou, Gwen Chudleigh (all St Lucia); Amanda van Vuuren (Richards Bay), and Sue Bernon (Empangeni).
The Gallery – St Lucia is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am-4pm and Wednesdays from 1pm to 4pm. Entrance to the exhibition and gallery is free.
