Parties declare donors as part of the IEC's Political Party Funding Act

FOUR political parties recently declared their donations received in the first quarter of 2022/23 as part of the IEC’s Political Party Funding Act.

This is the second year of the Act’s implementation and the IEC has said that, later in the year, it will publish its first Party Funding Annual Report.

ActionSA, the ANC, the DA and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) declared the following amounts:

· ActionSA – R 750 000
· ANC – R10 000 000
· DA – R15 977 687
· Patriotic Alliance (PA) – R310 000

The IEC said from the amount declared by the DA – the highest disclosure – R15-million was a donation made by Fynbos Ekwiteit (Pty) Ltd.

“This entity made some significant donations to the same party in the previous financial year,” said the IEC.

The commission said the ANC’s donation of R10-million came from an entity known as Botho-Botho Commercial Enterprise.

ActionSA received donations from Style Eyes of California (Pty) Ltd and Shave & Gibson Group (Pty) Ltd.

“The former made a monetary donation of R600 000 and the latter a donation of R150 000. Both donors have previously donated to the same party in the last financial year,” reads the IEC statement.

Meanwhile, the PA’s donations came from the party’s leader Gayton McKenzie, who made two separate donations of R150 000 and R160 000.
