ALL emergency services, including Ulundi RTI and municipal fire and rescue, are on scene at a serious truck accident in the Denny Dalton area of the R34/R66.

The R34/R66 has become the main trucking route for side-tippers after the fatal N2 Pongola accident between a coal-carrying truck and a bakkie, that claimed 20 lives.

The communities of Pongola have, after banning side-tipper trucks from using that stretch of the N2 since the collision, confirmed that these trucks will be allowed to travel the national route from Monday.

Mthonjaneni communities brought the R34/R66 to a standstill for side-tipper trucks yesterday in protest against their use of this route.

They appealed to the minister of transport to make alternative arrangements for such heavy-duty vehicles.
