The warning is in effect between 4pm and 11pm today.

Areas to be affected include Mandeni, Mthonjaneni, Nkandla, uMhlathuze and uMlalazi.
Strong, damaging winds have been forecast, with excessive lightning and heavy downpours expected over parts of King Cetshwayo District.

“Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon over parts of KZN, with conditions favourable for severe thunderstorms over parts of the above-mentioned municipalities,” said SAWS.

“These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by strong, damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours.”

SAWS warned possible impacts include localised damage to infrastructure, localised flooding, wet roads, and possible flying debris.

“Take caution or avoid travelling on low-level bridges and roads in low-lying areas, as these may be susceptible to flooding, and there may be sinkholes,” said SAWS.

“If possible, stay indoors, shelter pets, and cover vehicles.”
