Suspects nabbed with large consignment of dagga
The operation focused on drugs, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, and illegal shebeens
Four suspects found in possession of a large consignment of dagga were arrested last week in the Ingwavuma area and appeared in court on Friday.
Police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said the four were among nine other suspects who were arrested following a multi-disciplinary operation in the Ingwavuma policing precinct.
Mkhize said this operation involved the Ingwavuma SAPS, Detective Services, Vehicle Identification Safeguarding Unit, SANDF, local traffic police and the CPF.
“The operation focused on drugs, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, and illegal shebeens which are contributing factors to contact crimes and property crimes.
“Nine suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from possession of dagga, assault common and dealing in liqour without a licence. Unlicensed liqour outlets and a number of illegal shebeens were closed down,” said Mkhize.
uMkhanyakude District SAPS commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi welcomed the arrests, and applauded the police and the various recoveries they made during the operation.
Shezi said this result will send a stern message to criminals, and added that uMkhanyakude District is positive and confident about the goals to fight crime collectively.
