WATCH: Richards Bay coal dust settles on Parliament

Coal dust issue gets attention of legislature

The coal dust pollution problem that is affecting the health of Richards Bay residents in particular is finally getting attention at provincial level.

This after numerous such stories published by the Zululand Observer, the most recent being the 2 June front page entitled ‘Black lung alarm bells ring‘, were brought to the attention of Parliament by DA MPL in the KZN Legislature Heinz de Boer on Thursday.

De Boer called for an independent task team of air quality and environmental pollution experts to address the dust issues and to pinpoint the serious gas incident of February last year, which has still not been traced to a specific industry.
