Cable theft an ongoing headache for Richards Bay motorists and municipality

Cables were reportedly stolen on Wednesday night, rendering the intersection a four-way stop once again

Just days after replacing two traffic light poles at the Medway intersection on the John Ross highway just outside Meerensee, the robots are once again defunct.

This is owing to cable theft – an ongoing headache for motorists who are daily caught up in severe traffic backlogs, as well as for the City of uMhlathuze for which the costs are mounting almost daily.

Cables were reportedly stolen on Wednesday night, rendering the intersection a four-way stop once again, after having been replaced earlier in the week.

However, the municipality is onto it and hopes to replace the damaged poles timeously.
